Love Yourself Challenge

30 Day Challenge

In 2016 I started making a promise to myself that I would spend more time on my personal self growth and development. The past two years have been transformative and, honestly, quite hard. Making those first steps to self love is extremely difficult and BRAVE. At first I had no idea where to start. I know there are people like me out there who are lost and trying to find themselves. So I decided to create a 30 day Love Yourself Challenge that consists of one daily goal. Now some of these small tasks may seem trivial and meaningless, but you’ll start to notice over time that they actually make a huge difference.

Day 1:

Fill in your planner. If you don’t have one, I recommend getting one. You should learn to set aside days for yourself. If you’re a mom, this may be particularly hard. it doesn’t have to be an entire day. A couple of hours or even 15 minutes to sit and spend time with yourself, without electronics, focusing on yourself is so important.

Day 2:

Take a bubble bath. I don’t know about you, but I love a good bath bomb. Especially ones infused with essential oils that are targeted towards relaxation or recharging your energy. Here are some bath bombs that I highly recommend, at a reasonable price, if you want to see what the world of bath bombs is all about!

Day 3:

Write a love letter to yourself to read at the end of the month. Express to yourself why you are doing this challenge and what you hope to get out of it. I wrote a letter to myself to read at the end of 2018 with all of my goals in hopes that I can read that letter at the end of the year and check some really cool things off my bucket list.

Day 4:

Write down 3 physical features you love about yourself. This task is always hard for me. I do tend to be very hard on myself and I have always struggled with my weight and learning to love the body I’m in. Though, over the past couple years I have made great progress because of challenges like this.

Day 5:

Read your favorite book or try a book on self love. I have loved reading self help books the past couple years and I truly believe they have benefited me in many ways. If you want to check out some of my favorite self help books, you can check out my top 5 books for learning self love.

Day 6:

Pick one room and clean it from top to bottom. I love spending Sunday afternoons cleaning my house. It makes me feel more prepared and relaxed as I start the new week.

Day 7:

Make a list of at least 10 things you love about yourself. This is so much harder than it seems. We are so critical of ourselves in this day and age. Especially with social media making us feel like our lives are mediocre compared to everyone else’s.

Day 8:

Buy a coloring book and invest in some relaxation/zen time. I absolutely recommend coloring as a stress relieving activity. I recently bought a self-help adult coloring book and it was the best investment I have ever made. Coloring is one of those mindless activities that can help you escape from reality for a brief period of time. Check out my favorite coloring book here.

Day 9:

Take a 24 hour break from social media. Sometimes we become so glued to our phones that we tend to miss out on the little moments around us. Sometimes its best to see life with your eyes instead of behind a phone screen. 🙂

Day 10:

Make a list of all the important people in your life. This puts in perspective just how many people you have that you can depend on. We all tend to feel alone sometimes. Keep this list in a place for you to go back and read on those days when you need a reminder of just how blessed you are.

Day 11:

Catch up with an old friend. I have a lot of old friends who live far away from me now and it’s easy to lose touch. Try to call up an old friend for lunch or just a fun FaceTime session so you guys can catch up on all the latest gossip in your lives.

Day 12:

Donate clothes that don’t fit you anymore. As soon as Spring starts to peak through I feel the urge to clean out all my clutter. Getting rid of old clothes or donating things that I never wear is truly a great activity.

Day 13:

Make a list of things that make you happy. This can be ANYTHING. Your kids, coffee, video games.. you name it!

Day 14:

Do something outside! Take a walk, pick some flowers, take your kids to the park… vitamin D is definitely good for the soul.

Day 15:

Exercise. (I hear your silent groans) But exercise is super beneficial. The better your body feels, the better you feel about yourself. You don’t need to lose or gain weight. If you’re at a healthy weight, exercise can just be a great stress reliever and sometimes fun! (Not for me though)

Day 16:

Make a happy music playlist. I use Spotify for all my music needs. I like to make a separate playlist for each trip I take so I can go back and listen to all of my favorite road trip songs. No matter what, the thought of travel always cheers me up!

Day 17:

Do your laundry! Fold it and put it away. All in the same day? I know. Crazy thought.

Day 18:

Plan something to look forward to. Whether it be a day trip out of town or just a night at the movies with friends. It’s always exciting and fun to have something to look forward to.

Day 19:

Catch up on a show you enjoy or binge an old favorite! I personally love One Tree Hill and Friends.

Day 20:

Choose one bad habit you want to stop….and STOP! I recently have made it a point to stop biting my nails. Eww. I know.

Day 21:

Watch a movie that inspires you. I have a lot of movies that inspire me, but the ones that come to mind right now are “Freedom Writers” and “Dead Poet’s Society”. If you haven’t seen them, I highly suggest watching them.

Day 22:

Make your bed right when you wake up in the morning. Trust me, when you go to bed that night you will feel more relaxed climbing into an already made bed.

Day 23:

Remind yourself that you deserve forgiveness. We all make mistakes and we all fall into periods when we feel low. Don’t let that stop you. Remember to forgive yourself for the days that you feel low and reward yourself for the days you feel high.

Day 24:

Start a good habit. Maybe making your bed in the morning? That would be a great habit to start!

Day 25:

Cook something you’ve never tried before. I recently have been taking up cooking and I tried making my own friend rice. It actually turned out GREAT and I felt so accomplished.

Day 26:

Read up on your horoscope! Even if you don’t believe in horoscopes, they are still fun to read. Especially if your horoscope says that you’re going to fall in love tomorrow. You never know!

Day 27:

Go to a museum or art gallery. I personally love art museums and learning the stories behind the artists and what inspired their vision.

Day 28:

Send a hand written letter to a friend. I used to have a pen pal when I was in the first grade and its honestly one of my favorite memories. I have always loved the idea of handwritten letters. They just seem more personal.

Day 29:

Do a 24 hour juice cleanse. Now I have not done this, but I am thinking about attempting it! I have heard so many people express their support of juice cleanses. So I think I might give it a try.

Day 30:

Wake up early to see the sunrise. I used to absolutely hate getting up early, but there is something special about getting up before the sun.

I hope you have fun attempting this 30 day self love challenge! Learning to love spending time with yourself and growing as a person is so important Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed this challenge and I will talk to you again soon.

xoxox, Haley.

  1. I like this challenge. I think 30 days will really hard for me lol. I’m going to start of small, like increments of 5 now and then. My favorite one is #26, I just love reading about my future in horoscopes. It really brings my mood up.

  2. I love this challenge. I really need to do this. Some of these things I have already done, like filling my planner, but I never actually schedule any “me” time. This is such a great list of things to help one truly love them self.

  3. I love this. It seems like we have a lot in common because I am on a self-love journey too. I love almost every day you have planned here, even one of my favorite movies is Dead Poets Society!! Keep doing you girl! Sounds like you’re on the right track!

  4. LOVE this idea! Self-care is so important but it is definitely something I don’t put enough effort in to. I feel like doing one little thing everything is a great way to turn self-care in to a habit and make it feel less like a chore. I am for sure going to give this a try!

  5. I love this challenge!! It’s so nice to see something positive. I think we all get so busy in life we forget to tend to our own needs. This is a great tool to take care of ourselves.

  6. I love the fact that you created this challenge yourself!! So many great tips here. I already do a few of them fairly regularly (ESPECIALLY filling out my planner!!) but I know there are also some I’ll be adding into my life.
